Fine Nardin Quality Vs. Religious Subject Matter
This Ulysse Nardin 1914 pocketwatch is one of the finest and most beautiful watches we have ever owned. It is the complete package … original box and papers and incredible signature of the artist Adr. Huybers.
The repose work is nothing short of extraordinary. The quality of the movement is spectacular, the dial is a masterpiece and the condition is excellent, but the subject matter – as beautiful as it is to some of us of a religious nature – is nevertheless difficult to market because of two things. One, religious items are desirable to a limited audience based on the particular religion depicted in the art. Two, the modern-day mindset among many is that it is blasphemous, even though such pieces were often made for clergy and the devout.
A watch by Ulysse Nardin with any other subject matter would be worth $5,000 to $7,000. We purchased this watch for $2,000 and would be happy to sell it for $3,000.
