Bring Us Your Works of These Florida Artists

At Hess Fine Art, we’ve been fortunate to handle paintings by famous artists from around the world. We love finding a single masterwork – or entire estates – by a Florida artist.

We’ve been blessed to own and sell nine Edward Middleton Manigault pieces (value $5,000–$25,000), hundreds of Highwaymen paintings, and valuable works by Rauschenberg and Winslow Homer. We’ve achieved record-breaking sales for paintings and sculptures by Bob Ross and Romero Britto, and handled an extraordinary Clearwater collection by George Inness and George Inness Jr.

Left, we sold a similar George Inness for $65,000. Below, this landscape by Bob Ross brought $28,000.

If you have original art from Florida, or around the U.S., we’re eager buyers. Helping preserve and promote Florida’s rich artistic heritage is something we’re very proud of. We’d love to hear from you. We will buy for cash or consign to our internationally known auction site Hess Fine Auctions.

Here are examples:

  • Robert Rauschenberg, who worked on Captiva Island.
  • George Inness and George Inness Jr., internationally known artists who lived in Tarpon Springs.
  • The Highwaymen (26 African-American painters) (1950s–1980s) — Including Alfred Hair, Harold Newton, Sam Newton and Mary Ann Carroll (We have owned hundreds and consider ourselves to be experts).
  • A.E. Backus, mentor to the Highwaymen.
  • Winslow Homer (not from Florida, but he painted important works in the Keys).
  • Romero Britto, Brazilian-born, Miami-based.
  • Bob Ross — lived in Florida (provenance is tricky but we have sold for $7,000 and $20,000).
  • James F. Hutchinson — Pre-Highwaymen.
  • Laura Woodward — Early painter of tropical Florida.
  • Herman Herzog (1832–1932) — German-American Florida landscape artist.
  • Martin Johnson Heade — St. Augustine.
  • Emil Gruppe — wintered in Florida, painting Florida scenes.
  • Thomas Moran — lived in Florida; we sold a poor-condition painting for $75,000. His works can be worth $1 million.
