Murph the Surf was a man of mystery who lived just two hours from us. A skilled championship surfer, he was known for his cool demeanor, flashy shades, fast cars and laidback surfer lifestyle. He was good looking with a confident smile and a great physique, and always had a stunning woman by his side in pics from paparazzi.
His claim to fame was stealing the huge Star of India sapphire, which earned him adoration from the media
and a large portion of the public, but also earned him the disdain of police, investigators, and the FBI. Often
described as a charming rogue, he was also renowned for his deceitfulness.
From A Conman To A Devout Christian
He was, many said, the consummate conman. But he was eventually caught and convicted. Despite this, he experienced a transformation and became a devout Christian after his prison time, dedicating himself to spreading his newfound faith. Some believed this to be just another con, but he remained steadfast in his Christian beliefs well after
his time in prison.
He spent his days painting and creating prints. Recently, his heirs approached us to sell his estate, with the intention of donating a portion of the proceeds to Murph’s ministry, in order to continue his legacy of redemption.
While his auction records are scant, we believe his watercolors will bring $500 to $1,000 each, with one large piece, depicting men in sailboats at sea, likely to bring $1,500 to $2,000.
